Frances J Smith

Cherished Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Sister, and Aunt, Frances Joan Smith passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, August 27th. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, on November 21st, 1941 to the late Frank and Julia Markianus. She was raised in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn, and attended Bay Ridge High School. After marrying and moving to the Bay Terrace area of Staten Island, she received her Associates degree from The College of Staten Island. Frances enjoyed her role as a stay at home mother and went back to work once her three children were all in school. She loved her time as a school secretary for the NYC Board of Education for many years at Julia Richman High School in Manhattan, and was thrilled and blessed to work at a school on Staten Island later in her career. She retired and moved to the Rossville area in 2002. Once retired, she enjoyed traveling, and visited Italy, Poland, The Holy Land, and Alaska, among other fantastic locations. She loved spending time with her family, volunteering, and playing Mah-Jongg with friends. Frances volunteered for over 10 years at the South campus of Staten Island University Hospital, and enjoyed serving others in her community through Meals on Wheels as well. She is survived by her children Michael (Laura), Donna (Michelle), and JoAnn (Dave), her grandchildren Michael (Alexandra), Amanda (Jennie), Gillian, Alexander, Jessica, Kaitlyn, Ryan, and her great-granddaughter Liliana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday at St Clements Roman Catholic Church located at 172 Freneau Ave Matawan, New Jersey 07747. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery , Piscataway, NJ. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals & Cremation Services Inc., 113 Main Street, Matawan, New Jersey.
